Kaisa mittens

This month the blog Pinnekroken have a challenge to knit to the theme «own luxury». I love my Frida mittens, I use them every day but it wouldn’t harm anyone to have another pair. So I have knitted me a new pair of mittens, Kaisa mittens with slightly different technique and played a little bit with colors.

Material:
100 g Smart Superwash SandnesGarn (Color: 6545)
50 g Smart Superwash SandnesGarn (Color: 3525)
Double pointed needles size 3 (US 2,5)
Double pointed needles size 3.5 (US 4)

Gauge: 10 cm = 22 stitches

Right mitten:
Cast on 48 stitches on double pointed needles size 3 mm (US 2,5). Then work in rib (* K2, P2 *) to the rib measured 7 cm. Switch to a double pointed needles size 3.5 mm (US 4) and knit 1 round stockinette st. at the same time dec 4 sts evenly spread = 44 sts. From here should be as follows;
1 row: * K1, P1 * – knit stockinette in the base color green, purl knit in orange and this is repeated throughout the round
2 row: * K1, P1 * – knit stockinette in the base color green, purl knit in orange and this is repeated throughout the round
3 row: Knit stockinette out the round in base color green.
Repeat row 1-3. further.

SAME after eight rounds we begin to increase stitches for the thumb – increase on every other round by making 1 YO on each side of the first stitch in the round. On the next round knit the YO twisted to avoid holes. Once this is done 6 times, knit 3 rounds without increases. Then you set the 13 thumb stitches on a thread.

Next turn, cast on 1 stitch behind the thumb stitches on the thread. Continue knitting in pattern until piece measures approx. 25 cm (to the work cover your fingertips). Then we start to dec and we knit further on stockinette in base color green. Knit together every second stitch throughout the round (K1, K2 tog, K1, K2 together, etc.). Knit one round stockinette. Next round knit 2 and 2 stitches together (K2 tog, K2 tog, K2 tog, etc.). Knit one round stockinette. Next round knit 2 and 2 stitches together (K2 tog, K2 tog, K2 tog, etc.) before cutting the thread and pull it through the remaining stitches and fasten.

Thumb:
Slip the 13 thumb sts back on double pointed needles size 3.5 mm (US 4). We will knit stockinette here in base color green. Pick up 3 sts behind the thumb. Knit stockinette until thumb measures approx. 6.5 cm. Now des by knitting together two and two stitches throughout the round and pull the thread through, tighten and fasten.

Left mitten:
Cast on and work like right mitten, but the thumb stitches and the increasing place through the last stitch in the round.
